Campaign Update 🇺🇳 | If the UN Worked, Gaza Would Be Safe.
This is what happens when power protects power. Let’s build a UN that protects people.
There are no words. Gaza is out of food, because Israel is deliberately starving Palestinians. Mass deaths are about to happen and our countries are complicit in this genocide diplomatically, politically and/or militarily.
So take action. Protest. Agitate. Post. Do anything you can: take part in a global strike for Gaza (more below). To every politician elected and not pushing through sanctions, embargoes, aid, you are responsible. But it’s not too late to do what is right.
If this was any other country, we would have the United Nations (UN) trying to send peacekeepers on the ground to stop this genocide, and countries would have imposed sanctions, embargoes, aid would have poured in. But Israel is protected by some such as the United States, and continues to commit crime after crime with impunity.
Israel’s genocide of Palestinians exposes the double standards of global leaders, their hypocrisy, and our collective complicity. It also reveals everything wrong with the systems we built after World War II. Today’s wars are tearing alliances apart, paralysing the UN, which remains hostage to superpowers shielding their allies from accountability.
The UN has become an institution that picks and chooses when to defend international law, enabling genocide in one place, condemning it in another.
But we have no choice but to fight back inside and outside of institutions.
That’s why we are fighting to reform the UN by challenging the undemocratic process that appoints its Secretary-General. Right now, the UN chief is handpicked behind closed doors by five superpowers, with no input from the people of the world. There is no transparency, no vote, no accountability.
This must end. We, the peoples, must have a say. That’s why I’m running for the role — to change the UN from the bottom up, so it can finally protect people, not power.
If the UN worked as it should, peacekeepers would be protecting Palestinians in Gaza. Israel would face sanctions. Aid would be restored. Let’s fight to make that happen.
I- Strike for Gaza
In the face of continued violence, blockade, and international inaction, we are trying to organize a Global Strike for Gaza on September 15, 2025, International Day of Democracy - a decentralized global day of nonviolent action to demand:
An immediate and unconditional ceasefire
The lifting of the siege on Gaza
The end to apartheid and occupation
If you are interested in supporting the organisation, putting us in touch with key stakeholders, or co-hosting a strike, reach out. Our goal is not to speak for Gaza, but to help amplify the voices already leading - and to coordinate meaningful global pressure from civil society, students, labor groups, artists, and activists who refuse to stay silent.
II- My campaign for UN Secretary-General
As a reminder, I’m running to become the United Nations Secretary-General for climate change, artificial intelligence, wars, dictatorships, pandemics, and poverty to finally be tackled. The selection process will take place in a bit more than a year.
You can endorse and find all the details here.
Through this campaign, by mobilizing people across the world, raising awareness, getting support and shaking up the system, I aim to:
Get our political programme implemented to quell survival threats,
Get the UN to stand systematically against grave crimes, through the introduction of a Freedom Emergency Declaration.
Start a reform of the United Nations for it to have the competencies, legitimacy and leadership to act and preserve peace and security,
Bring the people’s voice to this institution by giving you a vote!
III- Become a spokesperson to change the world
As part of this bid for UN chief, we recruited Representatives who can publicly represent the campaign, either in their country or on key issues, helping to amplify our political programme, challenge the current system, and engage more people in our fight for a UN that actually works for us all.
We are preparing the announcement for September 2025, and their campaigns! (if you know of others who might be interested, we are still recruiting here!)
IV- Other: AI, Germany & COP 30
Our members approved three groundbreaking new AI policies the UN must urgently implement, that you can find here
I tried to explain here why Germany's Baerbock is unfit to be the new UN general assembly president.
You have an opportunity to attend COP30, the climate conference: it’s happening this year in Belem (Brazil) from 10 Nov - 21 Nov 2025. As an accredited organisation, we are able to send delegates. If you are interested in being nominated, please reach out to me in private to tell me more about your motivation, what you'd like to do there to promote our work, and we will take it from there!
I hope you are ready to change the world together,
Onward,
Colombe
